Music
Music is central to church life because of its power to move, inspire and transform. Bernice Johnson Reagon, founder of “Sweet Honey in the Rock,” says, “When we sing, we announce our existence… You cannot sing a song and not change your condition."
Our choir sings in three- and four-part harmony, and we warmly welcome new singers of all experience levels. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 PM, and would love to have you join us! We hope to start a children’s choir in the near future.
We offer a diverse range of music in our Sunday worship services. Do you play an instrument? Do you enjoy singing solos or collaborating with other musicians in a group setting? If you are interested in providing music for a worship service, please contact the Music Director.
The UUCH spirit band, "Joy!" offers our congregation the opportunity to express themselves musically in a variety of musical genres. Participation in the spirit band is open to people of all musical skill levels. Even if your instrument of choice is your voice, or if you want to shake a tambourine, you are encouraged to participate. The spirit band rehearses on the first and third Fridays of the month, at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary. Regular membership is not required. A core group of members provide the foundation for "guest" appearances. Joy! currently offers music for part of Sunday services once or twice a month. Current members include: Dan Wilson, Katrina Baillargeon, sKott Rogers, Ed Zaleski, Alex Itasaka, and Julia O'Neill. For more information please contact Dan Wilson.
