Green Sanctuary

The Green Sanctuary Committee (GSC) of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill (UUCH) is committed both to raising awareness among its congregants regarding environmentally friendly and sustainable living practices and to helping the congregation develop an environmental philosophy and practice that will contribute to restoring the environmental balance in our community and the world.  Its ultimate goal is to institute such policies and practices in the life and work of this congregation as a whole and to infuse these practices throughout all levels of church activity, including worship, administration, religious education, and social justice projects.  In working to achieve this goal, the church will witness to the need for personal and governmental actions to restore and sustain a healthy environment for ourselves and those who follow us.

The GSC started working on the Green Sanctuary Program back in 2005 and was officially admitted to candidacy as a Green Sanctuary in May of 2007.  Since then, the committee has been working toward completion of a 12-step action plan and hopes to submit its application for certification sometime during 2010.

The fourth annual Earth Day Fair will take place after church on April 18, 2010.
